  • Teachers of the Year - Congratulations to the 2008 Teachers of the Year! The following teachers were selected by their peers for this prestigious honor: Ms. Yesenia Blackwood (LVPS), Ms. Gretchen Jarosek (LVES), Ms. Donnell Carlson (LVISHPMC), Ms. Amy Gillum (LVJHSGDC), and Ms. Rosa Swearingen (LVHS)!
  • Rah-Rah Camp - The LVHS Varsity Cheerleaders are holding a Rah-Rah Camp for Grades K-6 this Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the LVHS Gym at a cost of $15 and lunch will be provided. For more information, please call LVHS at 299-6820.
  • ESL Classes - What an amazing turnout for the first evening of classes ESL classes for parents of LVISD students! There were about 16-17 parents, 23-25 children, five people from Baylor, Mr. Chris Borland (LVJHSGDC Assistant Principal) and Ms. Marilyn WIlson (Migrant / LEP Specialist) in the LVJHSGDC Library. Parents were registered and given a written placement test and classes are now being held (click here for flyer). The desire and eagerness of the parents to learn was evident from the beginning with one family coming almost one-half hour early.
  • Regional Boys Track Results - Click here for results form the Boys Regional Track Meet. LVHS scored 68 points and finished first overall (second place scored 45 points) and qualified for the State Track Meet in the 4X100 Relay, 4X200 Relay, 4X400 Relay, and the 100 Hurdles! For a schedule of events for the State Track Meet, click here. The Boys Coach is Steven Oliver and Assistant Coaches are Chris Ward, Rick Salter, and Jeff Oliver.
  • Careers on Wheels - Each year, La Vega Primary School students enjoy Careers on Wheels Day, where they are able to explore the different vehicles that people use in their fields of work. This year, we are thankful for the participation of parents and community members from the Bellmead Fire Department, ETMC EMS, TxDOT, Time Warner Cable, Dr. Pepper, the McLennan Co. Sherriff’s Dept., the United States Post Office, and Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association. Shown here is Mr. Donnie Garner with the ETMC EMS with several LVPS students. Thank you, Ms. Jodi Heston, LVPS Counselor, for coordinating this wonderful event every year!!
  • Athletic Physicals and Mandatory Meeting - A Mandatory Meeting for all parents and athletes (Grades 6-12) will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. in the LVHS Auditorium. Physicals will be offered immediately following the meeting at a cost of $15. For more information, click here.
  • Golden Apple Award - Third grade teacher Cheryl Peter just received the weekly Golden Apple Award from KWTX Channel 10! The taping will air on Monday, May 19th at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, May 20th at 6:30 a.m. Congratulations, Ms. Peter!!
  • Regional UIL Academic Meet - Rydell Walthall competed in two events at Regionals: Number Sense & Science. He placed 16th in Number Sense and 6th in Science. He is an alternate for State in Science. Congratulations to Rydell! Ms. Jeanne Allen-Beason is the Science coach, James Parten is the Number Sense coach, and Jenny Hoffman is the UIL Academic Coordinator.
  • District UIL Academic Meet - Congratulations to the following LVHS students who participated and placed in the District UIL Academic Meet. Priscilla Smith placed 4th in Poetry Interpretation; Daniel Perez, Jessica Hall, and Elisei Rusu competed in Prose Interpretation;Rydell Walthall placed 1st in Number Sense, 1st in Physics, 2nd in overall Science, and 9th in Social Studies, and advanced to Regionals! Ashley Moreira and Amy Hayes competed in Literary Criticism. The One Act Play Company presented scenes from And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson and did a great job! DeVon Brown received the Honorable Mention All Star Cast award and Jessica Hall and Elisei Rusu received All Star Cast awards! The UIL Academic Sponsor is Jenny Hoffman.
  • Civil War Trunk - Students in Ms. Jana Miller's fifth grade class at LVISHPMC recently had the opportunity to experience the Civil War Trunk from the Civil War Preservation Trust!! Shown here are Angel Baker and Myles Guillory dressed in attire from the Civil War era.
  • Lady Pirate Soccer District Awards and District Coach of the Year - Congratulations to the following members of the Lady Pirate Soccer Team: Diana Hernandez (Co-District Defensive MVP), Rebecca Nesbitt and Diana Hernandez (1st Team All District), Mayela Garcia and Jackie Medina (2nd Team All District), Anna Torres, Andrea Vargas, Susana Cervantes, Destini Pursely, and Vanessa Hernandez, (Honorable Mention All District). Team MVP's are Rebecca Nesbitt, Mayela Garcia, and Diana Hernandez, and Miriam Rodriguez was named the Team Most Improved Player. Congratulations also to Coach Amy Arredondo, who was named District Coach of the Year!
  • Pirate Soccer District Awards - Congratulations to the following members of the Pirate Soccer Team: Eddy Gonzales, Elisei Rusu, Chris Garcia (1st Team All District); Sergio Hernandez, Jose Regelado, Osvaldo Jiminez, Jose Fajardo (2nd Team All District); and Jesus Rodriguez, Gustavo Delarosa, Ivan Villanueva (Honorable Mention All District).
  • Congratulations to LVJHSGDC Principal Bryant Adams for receiving the Bridge Builder Award at the recent Bellmead Cultured Festival! Mr. Adams has served as a principal in LVISD for 17 years, as an assistant principal for six years, and as a teacher / coach for seven years.
  • Congratulations to LVHS Senior Will Henry for being selected to participate in the Texas High School Coaches Association All Star Game this summer! Will played linebacker for the LVHS Football Team, and was also named to the Texas Sports Writers Association 3A All State First Team, the 17-AAA Defensive MVP, First Team Super Centex, and Super Centex Defensive Player of the Year. Congratulations, Will!
  • Band Awards - Two of the Junior High and one of High School bands recently attended the McGregor Invitational Concert Contest. The LVJHSGDC band received a sweepstakes and so did the High School Band. The Junior High band performed Greenway March, Maesong and La Rejouissance. The High School band performed An American Elegy which was written to honor those students killed at Columbine High School, A Longford Legend, which is a setting of Three Irish folk tunes and K.L. King’s Circus Days March. One of the Junior High Bands also received a third division rating, which is good for a very young band. Band Directors are Tom English, Holly Johnson, and Ramon Carrillo.
  • LVHS Powerlifting Team - Congratulations to the following members of the LVHS Powerlifting Team who qualified for Regionals: Paul Debose, Tim Kemp, J. J. Johnson, and Daryl Curl. Lifters who qualified for STATE included Jeremiah Johnson and Paul Debose! Powerlifting coaches are George Kilgo and Jeff Oliver.
  • Board Meeting Date - The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the LVISD Administration Building, 3100 Bellmead Drive.
  • LVJHSGDC Students of the Month for March are: Students of the Month for March are: Kendra Herrera – 7A ; Brittney Millsaps – 7B ; JaTavia Douglas – 8A; Travis DeLeon – 8B ; Art – Trevor Thomas, 7th ; Sagar Patel, 8th and Maria Servin, 7th . Congratulations to these outstanding students!
  • Gold Performance Awards - The Gold Performance Acknowledgment (GPA) system acknowledges districts and campuses for high performance on indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings. These indicators are in statute (Texas Education Code) or determined by the Commissioner of Education. Acknowledgment has been given to La Vega High School for high performance in Math and to La Vega Elementary School for high performance in Reading / ELA and Math! Congratulations to LVHS and LVES students, faculty and staff!
  • Congratulations LVISHPMC Students - The following LVISHPMC students recently placed in the UIL Academic Competition: Meagan Neal, Spelling, First Place; Dulce Rodriguez, Dictionary Skills, Second Place; Andelyn Carlton, Dictionary Skills, Sixth Place; and Valerie Aldape, Number Sense, Sixth Place.
