Parents and other community members exercise their voice in public education control through the election of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees appoints the Superintendent who carries out the policies set by the Board.

The Board and the Superintendent work together to assure the best interests of the students and the patrons of the school district. This is a team concept -- both the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent have unique responsibilities. The Board of Trustees sets the policies and priorities of the District; the Superintendent and staff ensure that the policies and priorities are carried out.

The Board of Trustees of the La Vega Independent School District meets in regular session on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Administration Building, 3100 Bellmead Drive in Bellmead, Texas.  Your presence and participation are encouraged at board meetings. Patrons are welcome to address the Board without prior notice; however, board actions are limited to those items on the printed agenda.

The Board of Trustees may conduct public hearings and special meetings on various topics from time to time. These hearings provide additional opportunities for public comment on items such as the budget, tax rate, etc.

Notices for all school board meetings are posted on the LVISD Administration Building Bulletin Board, the McLennan County Courthouse Bulletin Board, and in a public area in the Administration Building. Notices are also mailed to area news media.

TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

To address the Board, complete the public participation request form available at the registration table and give to the Board Secretary prior to the start of the meeting. At regularly scheduled board meetings, the Board shall allot a total of thirty minutes to hear persons who desire to make comments to the Board. No single presentation shall exceed five minutes. Delegations of more than five persons shall appoint one person to present their views before the Board. Be aware that the Board cannot act on topics that are not on the agenda.
