H1N1 Information

La Vega ISD is keeping in close contact with the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District regarding the latest available information regarding the swine flu. The Waco-McLennan County Health District and its partners, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) are working to scrutinize all respiratory illness for potential new cases of swine flu.

What are the symptoms of swine flu in humans?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  Please contact your child's school if your child has been diagnosed with the flu or presents with symptoms of the flu.

La Vega I.S.D. Administrators and Staff have directed custodial staff to adjust cleaning routines to focus on sanitizing areas of hand contact, such as door knobs, hand rails, keyboards, drinking fountains, etc.

The Health District is working closely with healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses and hospitals, as well as, school districts, nursing homes and other institutions to actively encourage communicable disease prevention practices such as, hand washing and covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Everyone should follow standard precautions to reduce the spread of any respiratory illness.

•Stay home when you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others. If your child has a fever, do not send him/her to school. If your child becomes ill at school, he or she will be sent home.

•Cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues.

•Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and warm water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
