Disclaimer: La Vega ISD highly encourages a healthy lifestyle and environment for all students. It can be helpful for students with special needs to participate in physical exercise, interact socially and for parents to have a network of support. Therefore, the following list of local organizations, activities and links is maintained as a helpful tool for parent research and information, but not as a specific recommendation from La Vega ISD. The district does not investigate nor evaluate these organizations as activities. 
 
Adaptive Aquatics Swim Instruction
  • Who: individuals with special needs
  • When: four weekly lessons, delivered on an individualized schedule ($10 per child for YMCA members/$25 per child for non-members for 4-lesson cycle)
  • Where: Doris Miller YMCA or Family YMCA in Waco

Annual Play Day at Peaceable Kingdom
  • Who: children with special needs
  • When: generally in May

Arc of McLennan County After-School Care
  • Who: school-age children with special needs attending school in Waco, Connally or Midway ISD
  • When: Follows school calendars
  • Where: 1300 Austin Ave. in Waco
  • Notes: $25 registration + $50/week for Arc members or $60/for nonmembers ($20 Arc annual membership dues bay be paid at registration). For enrollment packet, contact the Arc at 254-756-7491
 
Boy Scouts Troop #6008 (Troop Ability)
  • Who: middle and high school males with special needs
  • When: Spring 2016

Buddy Up Tennis
  • Who: students and young adults with Down Syndrome
  • When: Saturdays at 1:00 pm

Challenger Little League
  • Who: school-age children with special needs
  • When: Tryouts generally in March; games on Tuesdays or Thursday evenings

HOT Autism Network
  • Who: children and adults with Autism spectrum disorders
  • When: various activities throughout the year

HOT Kids Bowling Group
  • Who: children with special needs
  • When: Saturdays at 10:00 am and Tuesdays at 6:30 pm ($6 for shoes and two games)

Social Skills Groups by Baylor Autism Resource Center
