AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. The AVID program is designed to help underachieving students with high academic potential prepare for entrance to colleges and universities. AVID implementation resources, trainings, and philosophy are all grounded in the idea that the growth mindset can be taught to students, and it is through the growth mindset that AVID students succeed in following their dreams and fulfilling their aspirations. 
 
All campuses within the La Vega ISD utilize the AVID system.
 
All elementary campuses PK-6, implement AVID schoolwide. AVID Elementary is a foundational component of the AVID College Readiness System and supports AVID’s mission and vision to provide a comprehensive model of success for all students, beginning with Pre-Kinder students.
 
All secondary campuses 7-12, implement AVID through elective classes, but students utilize skills learned in all content. The power of AVID Secondary is the ability to impact students in the AVID Elective class and all students throughout the campus. AVID Secondary can have an effect on the entire school by providing classroom activities, teaching practices, and academic behaviors that can be incorporated into any classroom to improve engagement and success for all students, to become more college- and career-ready.
